Our marketing team would frequently create smaller partnerships with various places or would ask me to create displays for local or national/global events and holidays.
Hibiscus Flower
The hibiscus was one of my first builds as Master Model Builder. It was for “Inspire Your Heart with Art Day” in 2016. This was before I was familiar with the many design programs available. Instead, I found a photo to use as a guide and drew the flower by hand on paper that was the same footprint as the build. This mosaic was hung on the wall in the J.P. Licks at Assembly Row over the summer of 2019.

Blue Man Group
I created this mosaic based on the Blue Man Group logo, and it is on permanent display at their Boston location. Here, I employed my layered mosaic style. The lettering is the topmost layer and the “paint splatters” overlap the background.

Captain America Shield
We were invited to have a table at the 2020 Boston Comic Con. I built this shield hoping that Chris Evans, who was scheduled to be at the event, would come to our table and sign it. Unfortunately, this event was cancelled due to COVID. The shield is life-sized, based on reference data about the prop found online. I used Microsoft Excel with a grid that was the size of LEGO bricks to help me figure out the curves of the shield. I was very excited about this opportunity, so it only took me about two days to complete.

Batman vs. Joker
I designed this build as a visually dynamic piece to go along with one of our Super Hero events. I created this picture by using alternating rows of LEGO sloped pieces to merge the two photos and create a “morphing” lenticular image.

Big Apple Circus
This model grew from a collaboration with the Big Apple Circus when it came to Assembly Row in 2018.
I used the program Bricksaic to design a template, then recreated the picture out of LEGO bricks. Bricksaic only produces a general guideline, which I used to create a rough outline and clean up each section to make a more contrasting and stylized interpretation of the image. The build was on display at the Circus for the run of the show.

Original Picture

The Bricksaic program produces this image from the original picture. I chose the size and the colors as needed.

I then went through and changed the color of each square in the program using the picture the program produced as a guide.

I cleaned up the background by changing all the squares to black.

I added a design back into the background and used this final photo as my guide for the actual build. I made decisions on what parts of the picture would be taller than the other parts as I built.
Rio Olympics
The marketing team would frequently ask me to create builds as added content for our social media pages. This build was based on the design of the trophy that was given to athletes who competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Social Media Content
We also decided to make in-depth videos where I described my design and build process for this model for our social media pages.

Boston Marathon Trophy
This build was for the Boston Marathon Fan Fest in 2019. It is a scale replica of the champion’s trophy. We were invited to be a part of Fan Fest the weekend before the Marathon.

Ski Boot
I designed this ski boot to be a live build for the Boston Ski and Snowboard Expo in 2015. I also built the skiing mosaic to be displayed at the Bretton Woods Resort. I also brought along extra bricks so that kids could build alongside me.

Somerville Fire Department
As part of a partnership with the Somerville Fire Department, we had some of their firefighters come to the Attraction to talk about fire safety with our guests. I built their logo as a thank you gift for the department.

The Harlem Globetrotters
We had an event in 2017 where two of the Harlem Globetrotters visited the Attraction. We invited a local group of kids to join us. I created signs and the life-sized basketball for this event, which at about 3 pounds was at least twice as heavy as a real basketball. We also created a simple obstacle course for the kids and had the two Globetrotter team members try a LEGO build challenge.
