Christmas

Each year we add extra magic to our LEGO city of Boston for the holidays. I always created as many little scenes as possible so that there was always something fun to discover.

Halloween

I saved everything I add to our MINILAND takeovers so that we could create more each year. Sometimes we had other employees, who were also interested in building, create things for the takeovers. The key to a good scene is taking the time to adjust all the MINILAND residents to be reacting to the monsters and be fully integrated into the scene.

I discovered the more you have of something, the more of an impact it will have in the scene. For example, the more skeletons I could fit onto the Zakim Bridge, the more noticeable the scene was. Also, adding familiar characters from favorite movies like Scooby Doo or Ghostbusters, provided a fun surprise for the guests. I added small pieces to look like leaves under every tree and bush in the city, as well as pumpkins throughout the city. The pumpkins and leaves would remain for the entire season, contributing to the overall look.

Star Wars

Star Wars Days were an annual takeover event where a Galaxy from Far Far Away came to LEGOLAND. As a fan, I really enjoyed recreating scenes from the movies and incorporating them into our MINILAND city.

The 40th Birthday of the MINIFIGURE

For this event, I created multiple parades throughout the city and decorated it as if the entire city was throwing a birthday party. It was fun to create thematic floats and to find ways to celebrate all the different MINIFIGURE characters throughout the years.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

I made sure to save builds like the crowd scenes and street barriers to use for any parade so I would have extra time to add more details to each installment. I would capture video of a parade while carefully walking through MINILAND, trying to keep the camera as steady as possible while not stepping on anything!

Chinese New Year

Sometimes we would make smaller installments for a holiday. This would create more content for our social media pages to help bring in more guests. Continuously changing things in MINILAND gave our regular visitors new things to look at each time they made a visit.

Working in MINILAND

It took a lot of work to set up scenes in the city and to keep it clean. Patience and dexterity were needed to step around all the small items included throughout the display. I would usually build scenes in my office so that it would be easier and faster to add them into the city.

Cleaning

This is an accelerated video of me cleaning the historical section of the city. I would clean each section of the city about once a month or in between holiday takeovers. The video was made as an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the life of a Master Model Builder for our social media.
