Pumpkin

The pumpkin project was part of the ongoing effort to add more exclusive LEGO content to the Attraction. This model provides a photo opportunity for our guests every October.

Design Process

To start, I pulled reference images of a simple Jack O’Lantern. I then used the program Bricksaic to help determine the proportions of the different sections of the face. This gave me the basic layout of the pumpkin, and I improvised for color, shading, and the curve as I built the model layer by layer.

Design Challenges

One of the challenges I had to tackle was making sure there was enough of a curve in the model so that it could stand up on its own. I also integrated sloped bricks along the bottom of the edges of the eyes so they wouldn’t be as sharp for the kids.

As with many of our larger fixtures, it did require maintenance and repair from years of use and moving to and from storage. I added additional support up the middle of the back of the pumpkin as well as adding layers across the top, incorporating leaves and a stem into the design.
